Prior to installing Backburner, ensure that your firewalls on your render nodes are disabled or the proper port is allowed through. Refer to the chapter Configuring a Standalone Workstation of the Backburner Installation Guide: -dynamics/backburner-2019-install-guide-and-backburner-2019-user-guide/td-p/8234255 for information on how to set up background rendering on a standalone workstation. So if you download and install with only WI-FI on. you get one MAC adress... then if you connect your macbookpro with a Thunderbolt->Ethernet adapter, you want this to be first in the list for fastest connection. Then Smoke will not export (backburner fails)
And don't get me started with backburner and XSAN and OpenDirectory users vs. local users and stuff.... Autodesk has a lot to learn here... it is all a big mess... I always have to export to local disk/desktop and then copy that file into my Xsan...
I can't stress strongly enough to autodesk how flakey this part of the software is. It's the one thing that I flag to all the ops I know who are considering switching to smac or Flame 20th anniv. edition.

OK, figured it out. As far as I can tell, the python script allows you to define the cmdjob.exe path (for backburner), but not the blender.exe path. It is hardcoded. So, at the very least, you need to go into the python script and edit the blender path to match where your copy of blender is. It would be better to update the script so that it allowed input of blender path in the UI. Should be pretty straightforward.
Your config file is located in users\\Poly2poly2\\AppData\\Roaming\\Blender Foundation\\Blender\\2.78\\config But this is a known issue inside blender, and can only be done by forcing the system to use GPU, so i made a very simple script which is run whenever a backburner job is started. 153554b96e
