The atmosphere in this image is very conceptual, and is not meant to be a photorealistic rendering. We instead wanted to more accurately portray the feeling of being in an abandoned steel mill, and to show how the rusty embossing and crack patterns can be used as a backdrop to sculpt elements and cast shadows. It's meant to give the impression that the atmosphere is part of the landscape and the characters are a part of the landscape, and that the landscape and characters are one thing.

For 2.0 (and 3.0) the entire scene was rendered out using the new X-Particles 3.x engine, which is an entirely new engine that is able to use a few tricks to allow us to render the scene at roughly the same speed as we were rendering the original, while also allowing us to use much higher res textures in the cracks. We use a lot of new methods in the new engine that are unavailable in the 2.0 & 3.0 versions, so this is why the scene is so much faster. With the old engine we would have had to use much smaller textures, which would have taken much longer to render. As our main textures are 100K, this would have been unacceptable.

Unfortunately, we cannot remove cracked versions from the store or our download servers, so this could take a while. If you have any issues with 2.0, we suggest checking the forums for a solution.
