Meanwhile Doctor Chalmers was studying the reports of the case inthe matter of his patients which were daily laid before him by thecourt physician; but his reports would have appeared uninteresting toanyone but Doctor Prenoveau, had not the latter's portrait, which hehad been sending off to the Academy of Medicine and Arts, beenreturned to him in a large envelope with the name of the kind-heartedDoctor on it, stamped in red. It was the first time he had ever beencalled by any other name; it was the first time he had ever beencalled Doctor; it was the first time he had been called anything atall.
