In 2008, D'Souza appeared in the masala comedy film Happy, playing the role of a carefree college student instead of a heroine. The Telugu version of the movie was a major hit, but the Tamil remake failed to impress box office.[42] The director of the film, Srinu Vaitla of Choodalani Anubandham fame, had initially wanted to make her a heroine in the Tamil version.
Though she never intended to return into Tamil movie industry, her industry stardom had ensured that her fans never wanted her to exit from the industry. Thus she agreed to appear in Tu Ke Gutta in December 2007, as an extension of her Telugu career. She was paid her full compensation for the movie before signing the contract. The movie was a Tamil remake of the Telugu movie, Katha, which she had acted in in the year before. It was the first Tamil film to have been dubbed into the Telugu language.
The producer was initially not interested in having her in the film. As he thought there was no chance of the movie doing well in the box office, and also that a character like her would distract the audience, he turned down the offer. But after hearing the Telugu version of the movie, he gave his approval and D'Souza agreed to act in the movie. She was given a small role as the cousin of the lead heroine Theeba, and was given very little time to learn the Telugu and Tamil languages in order to shoot the scene.
Reviews were mixed to positive for the movie. The movie did not do well and D'Souza was heavily criticized by fans for not delivering a strong performance as she had done in Boys and Happy. d2c66b5586
