When the ruling class is divided, and the ruling bloc of people are divided, the inherent contradictions of this position will be apparent. Theirshared interest will be in the salvation of capitalism. The broadcomposition of what is to be kept (the ruling class, the blocking class,and the critical mass) will be in flux, but will be strongly aligned to the preservation of the system. And as the capitalreforms begin, they will inevitably be filled with people who are notstruggling against the system but who are struggling against thecompetition to maintain their position in the system. New laws willbe written to protect their position, but these will not be elaborateduntil they are needed. And this is why we are not in the period ofhope. Those who know that the ruling class is divided know that thesystem itself is in crisis. Those who do not know that the rulingclass is divided will be caught by surprise, and even thosewho do know will not understand the full implications of thedivisions. Instead, they will be fixated on the most immediateissues at hand. The critical mass will be in a state of confusion,and will not be able to build a broad movement against the system, butcan only panic in the face of the contradictions of capitalism.

But as the contradictions are finally resolved, the divisions will beexacerbated and the old system will be torn apart, until the oldclass finally goes down with it, leaving behind a new ruling classon top of a new system.

As the US hegemony fades, all the entrenched imperial interests thathave taken advantage of it will have to struggle to maintain theirpower and spread. That’s when the political parties and theircrony patrons will be back in force, and, perhaps, a new rulingclass will emerge. But as the consensus to dominate breaks up, theconvergence of opposites that defines capital will be back. The oldparadigm on which the Capitalist State was based was built on theassumption that the ruling class was a coherent bloc of peoplewith common interests. As the contradictions of capital emerge, the contradictions of state power will emerge. And the ruling class is now divided.

The state's function is to police the flow of capital, and destroy the possibility of revolution, so its violence will not seek to repress us, but to incarcerate and kill us. To be sure, the state will also greatly limit our ability to revolt, but this will mostly be accomplished by restricting our ability to communicate and act, often through the sado-masochism, the taxation and the regulation of the distribution of our very bodies. It will also attempt to destroy our ability to manage our own lives by overseeing our diets, our exercise, our education, and the healthiness of our lives.
