KingsRow uses a very large calculated opening book of over 800,000 positions, and will handle the Chinook 8 piece endgame database and the Martin Fierz 8 piece database, making this engine formidable indeed. The author has recently calculated a 10 piece database which is something like 200GB, obviously not practical for download or even for usage by 99.9% of computer users (nor is it currently available to the public).
Wincheck is an interesting sort of a thing. It is part of a series, a rather large series, of similar looking checkers and draughts games done by a Franco-Spanish programming team. They make the claim that these are the most graphically and visually spectacular of all checker programs, and there is some truth to that claim, along with some problems.
There are some humorous touches. At the end of a game, should you lose, there is a sound effect of a child's voice, in an imitation British accent, saying something like 'Thank you for playing checkers, sorry you didn't win.' Uh, that's draughts on the other side of the pond, folks. But I guess you can't blame them for trying.
The aroma is biscuity-dry with obvious pepper and dry herbs of sagebrush, bay laurel and eucalyptus with relatively subdued fruit-ester element of honey, apricot and dried peaches. Ethanol and strong phenol ferment character emerge with swirling.
The flavor starts rich and very fruity with a bready-biscuity malt backbone complemented with the aforementioned apricots and peaches with an additional dry apple note. A very solid bitterness and emergent dried herbs and pepper dominate the mid-palate with angles of light clove, black pepper and juniper sage with appreciable ethanol heat. The finish is long and quite dry with hints of malt sweetness largely swamped by lingering phenols of pepper and spice and lasting bitterness. Gas content is high and mouthfeel is full and thick, with a trace of astringency and fusel-heat that contribute to the hot-dry finish.
Brewed with purified water and premium malt & hops, it pours clear with a transfixing golden hue. Expect aromas of lemon biscuit and white pepper, with lifted herbal notes. To drink, it's bright and full-bodied, showing tangerine, honeyed malt and a hint of savoury sage.
