Nintendo are currently working on a PS4 emulator for use on Switch, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them take a similar path for an updated Bloodborne implementation on that platform. Multiple reports from this year suggest that From Software will be revisiting Dark Souls 3 with these remasters. The original game was famously remade twice after the initial release, first in the form of Demon's Souls - which was completely re-worked to enhance the experience. And Bloodborne - in its previous form - was in turn inspired by Dark Souls, itself developed as a spiritual sequel to Demon's Souls. Everyone's crossed swords before and the PlayStation 4 is a much better platform for such games than the original Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. With that in mind, this should be a relatively simple console generation to point towards the future of where From Software's games will go.
The real mystery here is the game itself. When Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne arrived to the West, Sony did their best to ignore their platforms - including the PlayStation 4 Pro. That didn't exactly work out well for Demon's Souls, nor did it for Dark Souls 3 - and we saw what Sony really thinks of PS4 Pro by not supporting the Pro in terms of design and software. Digital Foundry has also spoken to multiple sources who revealed that From Software wanted to go down this route, and to that end, it's significant that the PS4 Pro should be backwards compatible. While Dark Souls 3 is content to run at the relatively unimpressive 30fps, you can fill the SNES and Dreamcast up to their limits by maxing all settings - competition has a direct bearing on sales. And Bloodborne, for all its imperfections, is a gate-opener for Souls games. If Sony give it their blessing, the jump can only be upward - even if it couldn't happen any faster than this.
Of course, it would be different for the PS5, but for now, any word from Sony wouldn't be welcome - not when Nintendo are preparing to show their own backward compatibility at E3. Bloodborne should be possible on PS4 with little fanfare. With the right resources, and the right timing, this could mark a turning point in PlayStation's attitude towards the console line. d2c66b5586
